How to use

  1. Add JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF images.
  2. Pick a compression preset such as Balanced, or switch to Target Size for a maximum file size.
  3. Open Advanced Settings for minimum quality, optional resize-to-target, and lossless options where supported.
  4. Optimize, compare original and result sizes, and download individually or as a ZIP.

Key benefits

  • Simple presets

Best Quality, Balanced, Smaller File, and Smallest File map to format-aware qualities without misleading “no loss” claims.

  • Target size still accurate

Target Size keeps the highest quality at or below your limit, down to your minimum quality, and can optionally resize.

  • Per-image batch results

Every file gets its own quality. The batch summary uses real totals, not estimates.

Quality versus file size

Lower quality usually means a smaller file, but the relationship is not a straight line. Two photos at the same quality can end up very different sizes.

PNG output is lossless, so quality settings do not shrink a PNG much. Convert to WebP or AVIF when you want stronger compression while keeping transparency where those formats allow it.

Automatic optimization

Balanced, Smaller File, Smallest File, and Web Optimized can probe nearby qualities in the worker and keep the best practical candidate. Intermediate encodes are discarded to limit memory use.

If the optimized file is barely smaller than the original, the result says so—compression is not forced for a few kilobytes of savings.

Target-size compression

A target is a maximum, not a size the tool tries to fill. Set a minimum quality so the search never drops below that floor.

Start here for general compression, or go straight to 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, or 200 KB. Allow resizing only when you accept smaller dimensions; the aspect ratio stays intact.

WebP, AVIF, and resizing

Large JPG or PNG files may show an optional tip to try WebP or AVIF. The tip never changes the format unless you choose it.

Very large pixel dimensions can suggest a web-friendly max width. Use Image Resizer when you want full control over dimensions before you compress.

Batch compression

Add many images, run Optimize once, and review each card plus the batch totals. Cancel All stops unfinished work; cancelled jobs never appear as completed.

Download All and ZIP include only successful results, the same as before.

FAQ

Common questions

How does smart compression work here?

Presets pick a format-aware quality. Some presets probe a few candidates in a Web Worker and keep the best tradeoff. Target Size still searches for the highest quality under your limit.

Will every image get much smaller?

No. Already-small files or PNG-to-PNG runs may barely change. The result card reports when savings are not meaningful.

Can I compress to 100 KB or 200 KB?

Yes. Use Target Size on this page, or open the dedicated 100 KB and 200 KB tools.

Does the tool flatten transparent PNGs?

No when the output is PNG, WebP, or AVIF. JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are placed on white only for JPG output.

Are images uploaded to be compressed?

No. Compression runs in your browser.
