Remove Image Metadata

This tool rebuilds the image from pixels into JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF so embedded EXIF and GPS are not copied into the download. Completeness depends on the chosen output format and browser pipeline.

Your image is processed locally in your browser and is never uploaded to our server.

How to use

  1. Add the photo you want to clean.
  2. Choose JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF as the output format.
  3. Download the re-encoded file and optionally verify with Image Metadata.

Key benefits

  • Pixel rebuild

A new file is encoded from pixels so typical EXIF/GPS is not copied through.

  • Format choice

Pick a web-friendly output while you strip tags.

  • Private

    Re-encoding stays on your device.

What this tool does and does not claim

Re-encoding from pixels removes typical camera EXIF and GPS from the new file. We do not claim absolute removal of every exotic chunk in every container.

Inspect first with Image Metadata if you want to see what was present before cleaning.

Combine with compression

After stripping tags, use the image compressor or JPG to WebP when you also need a smaller file for upload forms.

FAQ

Common questions

Is metadata always completely gone?

Re-encoding from pixels removes typical EXIF/GPS from the new file. We do not claim absolute removal for every exotic chunk type in every format.

Will quality change?

Lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF) use your quality setting. PNG is lossless. Always preview if fidelity matters.

Are images uploaded?

No. Re-encoding runs locally.

Can I clean HEIC photos?

Convert HEIC to JPG or PNG first with the HEIC tools, then remove metadata on the converted file if needed.
