Image to Base64
Generate a Base64 string or a data URL from an image on your device. Base64 increases size; clear memory when you are done with large files.
Your image is processed locally in your browser and is never uploaded to our server.

How to use
- Add a small image (icons and UI assets work best).
- Copy the Base64 string or the full data URL.
- Paste into CSS, HTML, or code—or download the text file.
Key benefits
Local encoding
The file never leaves your browser to become Base64.
Data URL ready
Copy a string you can drop into CSS or HTML prototypes.
Honest size warning
Base64 expands binary data—use it for small assets, not huge photos.
When Base64 helps
Tiny icons, email HTML experiments, and quick prototypes sometimes embed images as data URLs to avoid an extra request.
For production websites, prefer real image files (often WebP) and HTTP caching instead of huge inline strings.
Shrink before you encode
Run compression or PNG to WebP first so the Base64 payload stays manageable.
FAQ
Common questions
Why is Base64 larger?
Base64 encodes binary as text and typically expands size by about one third.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Encoding happens in your browser.
What is a data URL?
A data URL includes the MIME type and Base64 payload in one string, such as data:image/png;base64,…, so HTML or CSS can embed the image without a separate file.
Should I Base64 a full-resolution photo?
Usually no. Large photos become enormous text. Compress and resize first, or keep a normal image file.
