Passport and Job Application Photos (20 KB / 50 KB)

Prepare passport, signature, and résumé photos for Indian exam and job portals: crop ratios, common pixel sizes, and 20 KB / 50 KB compression—privately in the browser.

Recruitment portals, bank exams, and many government forms reject photos that are too large in kilobytes or the wrong shape. You usually need a passport-style face crop, a small signature scan, and a file under a hard limit such as 20 KB or 50 KB.

Common limits you will see

  • Photo: often JPG, passport framing, around 20–50 KB (sometimes with a minimum as well as a maximum).
  • Signature: wide crop, often under 20 KB.
  • Dimensions: sometimes listed in cm (for example 3.5×4.5 cm) or as pixels—convert carefully if both are given.

Passport-size photo workflow

  1. Use a clear face photo with even light and a plain background if you can.
  2. Crop to a 3.5×4.5 style ratio so the face fills the frame without cutting the chin or top of the head.
  3. Export at the required pixels. For 3.5×4.5 cm at 300 DPI use 413×531; for many 50 KB portals a smaller size like 276×354 is enough.
  4. Compress to 50 KB or the limit printed on the form.

Resize to 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm413×531 px at 300 DPI with passport crop.

Signature workflow

Scan or photograph a dark signature on white paper. Crop tightly around the ink with a wide box, then compress hard. Many forms cap signatures near 20 KB.

Resume and CV photos

Job portals that ask for a “passport size” or formal headshot can use the same canvas as the passport tool. Open Resume Photo when you are attaching a file to a CV rather than a passport form.

If the file stays too large

  • Tighten the crop so blank background is gone.
  • Reduce width and height before chasing lower quality.
  • Keep JPG for photos and signatures unless the form requires another format.
  • Read the error on the result card—target-size mode reports when a limit is unrealistic without more resize.

FAQ

Common questions

Do all Indian portals use the same photo rules?

No. SSC, banking, and employer forms often share a 20–50 KB band and passport-style framing, but exact pixels and min/max sizes differ. Always follow the text on your application page.

Should I compress before or after cropping?

Crop and resize first so unused pixels are gone, then compress to the KB limit. The passport and signature tools do that in one flow.
